Punjab government imposes National Security Act on Amritpal Singh, ‘No negative incidents reported during operation’, says CM Bhagwant Mann

CM Bhagwant Mann: In the midst of the continuing crackdown by the Punjab Police on ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on Tuesday that anybody who attempt to disrupt peace in the state will be severely punished. The Punjab government initiated a severe crackdown on Waris Punjab De chief on Saturday. Mann addressed the reporters, saying, “I want to thank the people of Punjab for their help with this operation. Not a single untoward incident has happened.. This demonstrates that people want peace and growth.”

Many localities in Punjab have increased security

The officers have apprehended 78 members of an organisation led by him. The police action occurred a day before the start of Amritpal Singh’s ‘Khalsa Wahir,’ a religious procession, which was scheduled to begin in Muktsar district. Many localities in Punjab have increased security by conducting extensive vehicle checks.

Members of Amritpal Singh’s group moved to Dibrugarh jail

According to an Assam Police official, three additional accomplices of extremist preacher Amritpal Singh, including his uncle Harjit Singh, were transported to the high-security Dibrugarh jail on Tuesday. Since March 19, seven members of Amritpal Singh’s ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) have been brought here, including Harjit Singh, who arrived in the early hours of Tuesday.

Measures taken against Amritpal Singh

The Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday that extremist preacher Amritpal Singh had been subjected to the harsh National Security Act. Justice N S Shekhawat scolded the state government for Amritpal Singh avoiding the police on Saturday at a hearing linked to the habeas corpus petition, which required the preacher’s appearance in court, and referred to it as an intelligence failure. In recent days, some individuals have been talking of destroying Punjab’s environment with the support of foreign forces and uttering ugly comments. They have been arrested and will face harsh punishment as a result of the action taken against them.
