The Punjab government has tightened arms regulations and focused specifically on the state’s infamous gun culture. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann set stringent guidelines for gun ownership and display, including a prohibition on both online and offline public display of guns. Songs that glorify violence or firearms will likewise be severely forbidden.
New instructions state that all permits for weapons already granted will be extensively evaluated within the following three months, and no new licences will be granted unless the District Collector is personally persuaded that exceptional grounds exist for doing so.
Weapons usage that is hasty, careless, or celebratory that endangers human life or someone else’s personal safety is punishable, and offenders will face legal action.
Random checks will be made in various locations to prevent the glorification and illegal possession of firearms.
Additionally, anyone who engages in hate speech against any community will be the subject of a police investigation and strict punishment.
He had condemned the “trend of gun culture and gangsterism being promoted by some Punjabi singers” and urged them “to desist from fanning violence, hatred and animosity in the society through their songs”.

Mr. Mann had issued a warning to musicians in May for allegedly promoting gun culture in their music. He objected to encouraging such a trend and warned anybody found responsible they would face harsh punishment.
He had additionally urged these musicians to uphold the ideals of Punjab, Punjabi, and the Punjabiyat, strengthening the ties between brotherhood, peace, and harmony “instead of fuelling anti-social activities through such songs”.
Amarinder Singh, who was the chief minister of Punjab at the time, supported the arrest of the Punjabi musician Shree Brar early last year after he was charged with glorifying violence and encouraging gun culture.
