Punjab News: Horticulture minister of Punjab, Chetan Singh Jauramajra, today announced that the state government has approved a substantial number of 4,745 applications under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme. This program aims to provide assistance for post-harvest management projects and community farming assets.
Second highest number of Sanctioned projects
According to an official statement, the minister said that Punjab has achieved the second position nationwide for granting the highest number of applications under the AIF scheme. As of July 31, the state secured this commendable position after Madhya Pradesh, with an impressive total of 4,745 applications approved.
As per the reports, the minister disclosed the leading states in sanctioning applications, with Madhya Pradesh leading the pack with 6,316 applications, followed by Punjab with 4,745, Maharashtra with 4,178, Uttar Pradesh with 2,244, and Karnataka with 2,029 applications respectively. Within Punjab, the top five districts in terms of total applications received are Bathinda (1,095), Fazilka (1,015), Patiala (842), Sri Muktsar Sahib (784), and Sangrur (783).
Benefitting from the invaluable support of the AIF, the state is witnessing the establishment of several custom hiring centres, primary processing units, storage structures, cold stores, and more. The minister highlighted that the Department of Horticulture in Punjab plays a crucial role as the nodal agency for overseeing the implementation of this scheme.

Who will benefit from AIF scheme?
The minister said that the state has been allocated Rs 4,713 crore out of the total financing facility of Rs 1 lakh crore for this scheme across the country. Through the AIF scheme, eligible activities can benefit from a three percent interest subvention on term loans up to Rs 2 crore, with a maximum interest rate capped at 9 percent.
