Punjab has challenged the high court order of granting regular bail to Majithia in a drugs case

The bail granted to Bikram Singh Majithia by the Punjab High Court under the NDPS Act was challenged in the Supreme Court. Justice Suryakant, who is hearing the case in the apex court, has recused himself from the hearing. The matter has been sent to the Chief Justice on Monday. The Chief Justice will now constitute a new bench in this matter. An FIR was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia in Mohali under the NDPS Act on December 20 last year during the tenure of Charanjit Singh Channi.

After this, the Supreme Court gave a big relief to Majithia by banning his arrest till he contested the elections. Majithia surrendered in Mohali court on February 24 last year after voting. After this he was sent to Patiala Jail.

FIR was lodged against Majithia on 20 December 2021

The ED had said in the report in 2017 that Bikram Singh Majithia needs to be interrogated in the drugs racket case. The STF had also said in its report that many such things have come to light in the investigation, under which further investigation is needed. The High Court had then sought an answer from the Punjab government.

On May 23, 2018, the government submitted its opinion on the sealed report to the High Court. In 2021, the High Court had ordered that it can act on it. After this, an FIR was registered against Majithia on December 20, 2021 in Mohali under the anti-narcotics law. Majithia also had to go to jail. Right now he is on bail.
