On September 11, Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh launched “Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0” (IMI 5.0) with the aim of addressing various barriers such as vaccine hesitancy, misconceptions, and taboos related to vaccination. This initiative focuses on enhancing immunization coverage, particularly among eligible children, to strengthen their immunity.
Key Initiatives Under IMI 5.0:
Balbir Singh highlighted several key aspects of the IMI 5.0 campaign during the launch event:
- Overcoming Vaccination Barriers:
- IMI 5.0 will concentrate on overcoming the challenges that have impeded vaccination coverage.
- Efforts will be made to reach populations that were previously left out of routine immunization programs.
- Comprehensive Training:
- The Punjab Health Department has conducted comprehensive training sessions at various levels to emphasize the importance of targeting individuals who have not been vaccinated or are only partially vaccinated.
- Targeted Vaccination Sessions:
- Punjab has planned 6,156 sessions to target 60,670 children (aged 0-5 years) and 10,163 pregnant women.
- The campaign prioritizes children in the 0 to 5 years age group who have not received any vaccines, with the goal of providing life-saving vaccinations to all eligible children.
- Measles and Rubella Elimination:
- IMI 5.0 also plays a significant role in the nationwide effort to eliminate Measles and Rubella.
- It aims to ensure that every child under 5 years completes the crucial two-dose schedule of the Measles and Rubella Containing Vaccine (MRCV).
The launch of “Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0” in Punjab underscores the commitment to increasing vaccination coverage among eligible children. By addressing barriers and incorporating previously underserved populations, this initiative plays a crucial role in strengthening immunity and contributing to the nationwide goal of Measles and Rubella elimination.
