Punjab News: India launched the highly anticipated Aditya-L1 today at its scheduled time. Meanwhile, a group of 23 students from Punjab government schools embarked on an extraordinary journey to Sriharikota to participate in this momentous event.
Punjab students flew from Chandigarh
On Friday, students from Punjab government schools flew from Chandigarh to attend the launch event. Punjab’s School Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, announced that the state government would cover all the expenses for the students’ visit to Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, with the goal of fostering a greater interest in science among government school students.
Previously, two groups of students had the opportunity to visit Sriharikota during the Chandrayaan 3 and PSLV-C56 launches. Regarding the solar mission, ISRO Chairman S. Somanath mentioned that the Aditya L1 mission will take approximately 125 days to reach its designated orbit.
Aditya L1 Spacecraft
Aditya L1 is specifically designed to enable remote observations of the solar corona and carry out in-situ observations of the solar wind at the L1 point, situated approximately 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth. In 2019, the Indian government allocated approximately $46 million (approximately Rs. 380 Crores) for the Aditya-L1 mission, although ISRO has not officially updated the project’s cost. The success of this mission holds significant importance for ISRO, especially following India’s historic achievement in August when a spacecraft landed near the lunar south pole.
If all goes according to plan, Aditya-L1 will be positioned in a halo orbit near one of the five Lagrange points, offering a continuous view of the Sun and enabling real-time research into its effects on Earth’s environment and other planets in our solar system.
