Punjab News: As the excitement builds around the Punjab Legislative Assembly bypolls, another key political event is fast approaching. With voting scheduled for November 20 and results due on November 23, the bypolls will soon wrap up. But that’s not all—immediately after, the spotlight will shift to the Municipal Corporation (MC) elections, marking a crucial test for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab.
AAP Set to Face Another Challenge: Municipal Elections
While the bypolls capture much of the state’s attention, the Municipal Corporation elections are not far behind. These elections will be held across five major cities: Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, and Phagwara.
The process for announcing the Municipal Council elections is expected to begin soon, and the entire election process for both municipal corporations and councillors is set to be completed by the first week of January. These elections are especially significant, as they will be the first since the Congress-led tenure. Given that the municipal elections have not been conducted for several years, the ruling party’s performance in this context is critical.
Will AAP’s Stronghold Extend to the Municipal Elections?
As Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his AAP government prepare for the Municipal Corporation elections, a pivotal question looms: Can AAP secure victory at this level, too? The outcome of the upcoming bypolls may provide a glimpse into the party’s momentum heading into the Municipal elections.
Experts believe that a strong performance in the bypolls could help AAP build much-needed momentum for the MC Polls. This will be a crucial test for Bhagwant Mann’s leadership. If AAP performs well in these elections, it could further solidify its grip on power and create a ripple effect, boosting confidence in the party’s ability to succeed in the upcoming municipal polls.
