Punjab News– In a significant move to bolster the agricultural economy, Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Food Processing Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, met with Union Food Processing Industries Minister, Chirag Paswan, in New Delhi. During this meeting, Khudian proposed the establishment of a Mega Food Park in Bathinda, a project envisioned to transform the agro-economy of the region.
Enhancing Farmer Income and Employment
Minister Khudian, accompanied by Principal Secretary of Food Processing, Rakhee Gupta Bhandari, emphasized Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision to increase farmers’ income through value addition to their produce. This initiative aims not only to uplift the agricultural sector but also to create substantial employment opportunities for the youth in Punjab.
Leveraging Perishable Produce
Highlighting the critical need for such a facility in the Malwa region, Khudian explained that the proposed Mega Food Park would significantly leverage perishable agricultural produce by manufacturing processed food products for both domestic and export markets. “This food park will go a long way in leveraging perishable agricultural produce by manufacturing processed food products for domestic and export markets,” he stated.
Success and Potential
Khudian pointed to the success of the Mega Food Park in Ladhowal, Ludhiana, as a testament to the state’s potential for another such project. He assured that adequate land would be provided by the state government for the new Mega Food Park in Bathinda.
Request for Support
During the meeting, Khudian also urged Minister Paswan to expedite the release of the fourth installment of the grant-in-aid for the Ladhowal Mega Food Park and to establish a Food Testing Laboratory in Amritsar.
