Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann Seeks Clarity on Bills’ Status After Supreme Court Ruling

Punjab News

Punjab News: In response to the Supreme Court’s reprimand of the Tamil Nadu Governor over delayed bills, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has penned a letter to Governor Banwarilal Purohit, seeking information on the fate of Bills passed during the June 19-20 special sitting of the Vidhan Sabha.

The bills in question cover crucial areas such as Sikh Gurdwaras, Punjab Universities Laws, Punjab Police, and Punjab Affiliated Colleges. Official sources confirm the drafting of a letter by the Chief Minister’s legal team after analyzing the Supreme Court’s November 10 order, which validated the special sitting.

Three options:

The Governor faces three options: approval, forwarding to the President, or returning the Bills to the Punjab Government. If returned, the AAP government plans to reintroduce the Bills in the upcoming winter session.

Despite sending the Bills for consent in June, there has been no official communication from the Punjab Raj Bhawan. The Governor previously expressed concerns about the special sitting’s legality, stating it was a “breach of law and procedure.”

Governor consented to three money Bills for the winter session:

Following the AAP government’s appeal to the Supreme Court last month, the Governor consented to three money Bills for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha winter session. As the political standoff continues, the fate of these crucial Bills hangs in the balance, with potential repercussions for governance in Punjab.
