Punjab News: In a major success for the Border Security Force (BSF), troops on Friday intercepted two drones and seized a packet of suspected heroin in separate locations along the border areas of Amritsar district, Punjab. Acting on timely information provided by the BSF intelligence wing, the vigilant troops effectively countered multiple drone smuggling attempts aimed at bringing narcotics across the border.
Drone and Heroin Seizure in Amritsar Border Villages
BSF troops recovered a packet of suspected heroin weighing 570 grams late on October 31 from a harvested paddy field near Pulmoran village in Amritsar. The packet, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, was fitted with a steel ring and an illuminating strip, a design likely intended to assist the drug traffickers in easily locating the packet at night.
Following this, the first drone, identified as a DJI Mavic 3 Classic, was retrieved around 12:30 am from the same area near Pulmoran. Another drone, also a DJI Mavic 3 Classic, was found early on November 1 at around 8:45 am in a field near Dhanoe Kalan village, further underscoring the rising trend of drone usage in cross-border narcotics smuggling.
Recent Successes in Countering Narco-Smuggling
In addition to the recent seizures, the BSF had thwarted other significant smuggling attempts in the days prior. On October 29, based on reliable intelligence about smuggling activity, BSF troops apprehended three suspected narcotic smugglers from a border village near Amritsar. Along with the suspects, a packet of heroin and two smartphones were seized, which were later handed over to the police for further investigation to explore potential links with narcotics networks across the border.
Previous Interception of Narco-Drones
Just a day before, on October 28, BSF troops recovered a drone and 480 grams of heroin from a farming field near Roranwala Khurd village in Amritsar. The drugs, concealed in a plastic bottle wrapped in yellow tape with an improvised ring and illuminating strip, were once again linked to a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone—indicative of the technology being leveraged for narcotics smuggling operations.
Persistent Efforts by BSF in Securing Borders
These successful operations highlight BSF’s commitment and operational readiness to protect India’s borders against cross-border narcotics smuggling. With the increasing use of drones for illicit activities, BSF troops have consistently demonstrated their dedication and capability to thwart these attempts and ensure the security of border areas in Punjab.
