The Urban Development Commissioner has appointed Mayor Kuldeep Kumar as the election officer for both positions. The Supreme Court had earlier proclaimed AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar as the winner of the mayoral election, but fresh voting will now take place for Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Current political scenario favors the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP

The current political scenario favors the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which holds a clear majority in both positions with the support of three AAP councilors and the backing of the Shiromani Akali Dal. The BJP’s tally reaches 19 out of 35 councilors, including support from Akali Dal and independent councilors. The swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Kuldeep Kumar is scheduled for Monday.

The AAP-Congress alliance, now with 17 councilors, will need to regain the three councilors who initially supported the BJP to secure victory in the Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections. AAP and Congress are expected to make concerted efforts to woo back the three councilors.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar is set to take the oath on Monday, accompanied by the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader Bhagwant Mann. The AAP-Congress coalition aims to rejuvenate its political standing in the face of these upcoming municipal elections.
