Punjab News: CM Bhagwant Mann Oversees Paddy Procurement and Announces Reforms

Punjab News: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made a visit to Sri Chamkaur Sahib, where he paid his respects at Gurudwara Sri Katalgarh Sahib. During his visit, he also inspected the paddy procurement arrangements at Dana Mandi. CM Mann highlighted that government paddy procurement commenced on October 1, and notably, this year, the Central government has disbursed Rs 37.5 thousand crores under the Cash Credit Limit (CCL) scheme before the purchase.

CM Mann assured that the money will be deposited into farmers’ accounts

CM Mann assured that the money will be deposited into farmers’ accounts promptly after their market transactions, thereby eliminating the need for farmers to spend nights at the market. Currently, approximately 68 thousand metric tons of paddy have arrived at the market, with an estimated 182 lakh metric tons expected to be procured. To facilitate this, 18,554 procurement centers have been established across the state, ensuring all necessary arrangements for paddy procurement.

Furthermore, CM Mann announced a ban on PUSA-144, a variety of paddy, in Punjab in the upcoming season. Brick kilns will also be encouraged to use straw as a fuel source, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing the stubble burning issue. He stated that Punjab fares better than many other states in terms of pollution levels.

CM Mann confirmed that the mill owners

Responding to criticism regarding the Phagwara Sugar Mill issue, CM Mann confirmed that the mill owners, who were recently arrested, will be held accountable for settling the dues owed to farmers. He also noted that the Punjab Governor has provided an account of Rs 50 thousand crores, but suggested that it would have been beneficial if the Governor had also demanded accountability from those who had borrowed the funds.

In a counterattack against statements made by Bajwa regarding 32 MLAs, CM Mann challenged Bajwa to first address concerns within his own party and demonstrate that prominent figures like Sunil Jakhar and Captain are not in touch with him. He asserted that his focus remains on serving the people of Punjab, promising to hold those involved in embezzlement and drug trafficking accountable.
