Punjab News– In a significant move to enhance farmer income, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched an ambitious project promoting tomato and red chilli farming in the Fazilka district. As part of this initiative, Punjab Agro has established a juice factory in Abohar, Fazilka, specifically for processing tomatoes and red chillies, aimed at catering to the high international demand for these products.

Factory Capabilities and Farmer Support

The juice factory is equipped to process 6,000 metric tons of tomatoes and 30 metric tons of red chillies daily. Punjab Agro is purchasing red chillies from farmers at Rs 28 per kilogram, with the produce being exported to various countries.

During a recent visit to the factory, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal expressed optimism about the project’s potential to revolutionize the district’s farming sector. She encouraged farmers to collaborate with Punjab Agro in cultivating tomatoes and red chillies, highlighting the dual benefits of increased income and contribution to the state’s economy.

Assurance of Comprehensive Support

Punjab Agro officials, including Plant Head Subhash Choudhary and Manager Gurpreet Singh, accompanied Dr. Duggal during her visit. They assured farmers of full support throughout the cultivation and marketing processes and urged them to reach out to Punjab Agro for any assistance.

“This initiative is set to bring a transformative change in the lives of farmers in the region,” said Dr. Duggal. “The district administration is committed to providing all necessary support to ensure the success of this project.”

Impact on Farmers and the Economy

The project is expected to significantly boost farmer income and foster economic growth in the region. By focusing on high-demand crops like tomatoes and red chillies and ensuring robust support mechanisms, the Punjab government aims to create a sustainable model of agricultural prosperity.

This initiative underscores Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of Punjab’s farmers and positioning the state as a leader in agricultural innovation and export.

Farmers in Fazilka are encouraged to seize this opportunity and partner with Punjab Agro, which is dedicated to ensuring their success from sowing to selling. This collaborative effort is poised to create a thriving agricultural community and a robust local economy.
