In a resolute commitment to enhance the education landscape, Punjab’s Education Minister declared during a meeting that every government school in the state would have an adequate teaching staff or face no shortage of teachers by March. Minister Bains highlighted the significant strides made since the Bhagwant Mann-led administration assumed office in March 2022, with a remarkable reduction in the number of schools operating without teachers or with just one.
Drastic Reduction in Understaffed Schools
Minister Bains informed the assembly that out of the 20,000 state-run schools, 3,500 previously operated without teachers or had only one teacher. Under the current administration, this number has seen a substantial decrease to less than 600, marking a significant achievement in addressing teacher shortages and ensuring quality education.
Pioneering Education Equality
Pledging to make Punjab the first state in the country with no school lacking a teaching staff, the minister emphasized the government’s dedication to education equality and rights. The commitment extends to providing free and quality education for marginalized communities under the Right to Education Act.
Technological Advancements in Government Schools
Minister Bains outlined future plans, revealing the government’s initiative to equip all 20,000 government schools with WiFi connectivity by March. Already, WiFi systems have been installed in 4,000 schools, showcasing a commitment to advancing technological infrastructure in education. Additionally, plans were announced to establish 10,000 new classrooms, addressing the need for expanded infrastructure to accommodate the growing student population.
This ambitious agenda aligns with the government’s overarching vision to transform the educational landscape, ensuring accessible, quality education for all students in Punjab.
