Punjab News: To alleviate the financial burden on patients, Punjab government hospitals are set to offer 532 types of medicines, both essential and non-essential, starting from January 26. This marks an enhancement from the current provision, where only 278 essential drugs are available.
- Comprehensive Drug List: The extended drug list comprises 254 additional medicines, encompassing both essential and non-essential categories. This initiative aims to provide a more extensive range of medications to the public free of charge, contributing to improved healthcare accessibility.
- Responsibility and Oversight: Health authorities have assigned the task of regular inventory reviews to designated personnel. Civil surgeons and senior medical officers are mandated to ensure accurate stock levels and promptly communicate with the warehouse in case of discrepancies.
- Local Procurement Authorization: In scenarios where a particular medicine is not available within the Punjab Health Systems Corporation (PHSC) inventory or may encounter delays, civil surgeons have the authority to make local purchases. The budget for such local procurements is set at Rs 10 lakh for civil surgeons and Rs 2.50 lakh for senior medical officers.
This strategic initiative not only broadens the spectrum of medicines accessible to the public but also empowers local health authorities to address immediate medication needs through localized procurement channels.
