Punjab News: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to inaugurate Punjab’s inaugural Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Mohali on Thursday. The establishment, announced during the 2022 budget session, represents a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure, costing over Rs 40 crore. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the institute aims to offer specialized care, training, and research in hepatology.
First Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences Set to Inaugurate in Mohali
Situated in Phase 3B-1, Mohali, the institute will have a staff of approximately 450 individuals, including 80 doctors, 150 nurses, and 200 group-D employees. Prof Virendra Singh, former head of the hepatology department at PGI Chandigarh, will serve as the director.

The institute will cater to patients dealing with a spectrum of liver diseases, such as acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, alcoholic liver disease, pancreatic disorders, gallbladder issues, and more. Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, highlighted that the state will be the second in the country, after New Delhi, to host an exclusive institute dedicated to liver and biliary diseases.
