In the second police encounter of the week in Mohali, Punjab, two gangsters engaged in multiple criminal activities were shot in the legs by the crime investigation agency (CIA) during an attempt to flee. Karamjit Singh from Kurukshetra and Parambir Singh, alias Prince, from Rajpura, faced police action after being intercepted in the Sohana area.
Criminal Record and Activities:
- The accused were involved in 10 criminal cases, including two carjacking incidents in Mohali and extortion activities targeting businessmen and property dealers in Zirakpur.
- The duo had stolen a Maruti Swift Dzire car from a taxi driver in Sector 114 of Mohali on November 28.
Encounter Details:
- When the CIA team, led by DSP Gursher Sandhu and Inspector Shiv Kumar, blocked the gangsters’ car, the accused, with Prince behind the wheel, opened fire at the police.
- Despite warning shots fired by the police, the accused attempted to escape, leading to them being shot in the legs to prevent their getaway.
- Both gangsters suffered gunshot wounds, with Prince receiving two and Karamjit one. Following the encounter, two .32-bore revolvers were recovered from the arrested individuals.
Police Response:
- Mohali district police chief Sandeep Garg stated that the police action was prompted by the accused’s attempt to evade arrest and the threat posed by their firing on the CIA team.
This encounter highlights law enforcement’s efforts to curb criminal activities, particularly involving individuals with a history of carjackings and extortion in the Mohali region.
