Punjab News : Government Allocates Rs 15 Lakh for Paris Olympics-bound Athletes

Punjab News: Punjab Sports Minister, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, announced on Wednesday that the state government would allocate Rs 15 lakh to each athlete qualifying for the Paris Olympics to support their preparation. Emphasizing the state’s commitment to fostering a sports culture, he highlighted the success at the Asian Games where 32 players from Punjab secured 20 medals, breaking a 72-year-old record.

Under the new sports policy, a cash award for preparation has been earmarked for athletes in every discipline. In a groundbreaking move, 58 Punjabi players who participated in the Asian Games received Rs 8 lakh each for their preparation. The government plans to establish 1,000 sports nurseries, with 260 already initiated in the first phase.

Furthermore, the sports minister outlined the creation of a separate cadre of 500 posts for medal-winning athletes to ensure job opportunities. He also disclosed that Rs 74.96 crore had been distributed among 24,164 sportspersons who excelled at the state, national, and international levels.
