Punjab News: In a significant move, the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has unveiled plans to establish a Sadak Surakhya Force to enhance traffic management and prevent road accidents.
Punjab is set to become the first state in India to institute such a force, aimed at tackling issues like drunk and reckless driving. The Sadak Surakhya Force will deploy modern-equipped patrol vehicles to proactively address potential accidents, with a focus on national and state highways, where 65% of road deaths occur, according to Punjab Cabinet data.
The government’s commitment to safeguarding lives is underscored by these proactive measures. Last year’s alarming statistics, with over 500 accidents resulting in approximately 4000 casualties, further emphasize the pressing need for such initiatives.
The Sadak Surakhya Force deployment is poised to make a significant impact, particularly during the critical evening hours when a majority of accidents tend to occur due to a lack of police presence on the roads.
