Punjab News: Gurminder Singh Appointed as New Advocate General of Punjab

Punjab News: Senior advocate Gurminder Singh, popularly known as Gerry, has been appointed as the new Advocate General (AG) of Punjab. He has replaced senior advocate Vinod Ghai, who resigned from the position citing personal reasons. The appointment was made by the governor, and as the senior-most law officer of the state of Punjab, Gerry will hold the rank of a cabinet minister. The AG also has the privilege to participate in the state legislative assembly proceedings.

He is known to have a close association with AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha

Gurminder Singh, aged 56, becomes the third AG of Punjab within approximately 19 months of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in the state. He is known to have a close association with AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, having represented him in legal cases. In addition to his extensive experience in private and institutional litigation, Gurminder has served in various legal positions in Punjab, including assistant advocate general, deputy advocate general, and additional advocate general. He has also worked on pro bono litigation to support the causes of disadvantaged sections of society.
