Punjab News: — Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh directed various departmental officials to collaborate effectively in preventing and controlling vector-borne and water-borne diseases. During a district-level meeting in Ludhiana, Dr. Singh emphasized the need for seamless coordination among the Health, Local Government, Rural Development, and Panchayats departments.
Emphasis on Coordination and Information Sharing
Dr. Singh stressed that officials should be well-informed about disease cases, hotspots, samples, and other crucial data. He highlighted the collective responsibility in managing diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, hepatitis A, malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. The minister also pointed out the importance of maintaining up-to-date information to enhance the effectiveness of the response.
Action Plan for Outbreak Management
In the event of an outbreak, the minister instructed municipal authorities to promptly address and rectify issues leading to water contamination. He advocated for daily inspections of water containers and larval control in homes, with a focus on educating students about mosquito breeding prevention. Dr. Singh emphasized that clean drinking water must be provided until contamination issues are resolved, and door-to-door surveys should be conducted to distribute necessary medicines.
Awareness and Health Services Review
Dr. Singh also called for a robust awareness campaign led by the Health Department to educate the public on identifying and managing symptoms of water-borne and vector-borne diseases. Additionally, he reviewed the operations of Aam Aadmi Clinics, OOAT centres, and drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres to ensure they are well-stocked and functioning efficiently. The minister’s focus included ensuring that these facilities are adequately equipped to handle current and future health challenges.
