Punjab News: In a positive development for the environment, Ludhiana district has recorded the lowest number of wheat crop stubble burning incidents in the last three years across Punjab. Authorities attribute this decline to increased awareness among farmers regarding the harmful effects of stubble burning.
Ludhiana Witnesses Significant Drop in Wheat Stubble Burning Incidents
According to data provided by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), there were only eight active fire incidents related to wheat stubble burning in Ludhiana district between April 1 and 30 this year. This marks a significant decrease compared to previous years.
In 2023, there were 11 such incidents recorded during the same period, indicating a 27.3% reduction this year. However, the number of incidents was alarmingly high in 2022, with 194 cases reported in Ludhiana during the same timeframe.
The data also reveals that there were no stubble burning incidents reported in Ludhiana on April 30 this year. In contrast, there was one incident on the same day in 2023, and 23 incidents in 2022.

With only eight incidents reported between April 1 and 30, Ludhiana district ranks eighth among districts in Punjab in terms of stubble burning incidents. Bathinda district reported the highest number of incidents, with 20 cases recorded during the same period.
The decrease in stubble burning incidents in Ludhiana reflects positive progress towards environmental conservation and indicates the success of efforts to raise awareness among farmers about alternative methods of crop residue management.
