Punjab News: As the much-anticipated consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya approaches on January 22, the impact on school holidays in Punjab has become a matter of uncertainty. While there has been no official order from the state government declaring a holiday on this occasion, there is a growing demand from various religious institutions for a day off. The call for a holiday has gained momentum amidst the intense cold wave gripping the region.
School Closure in Punjab Amidst Chilly Weather Concerns
The extreme cold weather conditions in Punjab have prompted the Education Minister to prioritize the health and safety of students. Consequently, all government and private primary schools up to the 5th class have been ordered to remain closed from January 15 to January 21, 2024. However, concerns have been raised among parents and teachers regarding the possible extension of holidays, fearing a negative impact on students’ academic progress.
Record-Breaking Cold in Punjab Raises Health Concerns
Punjab is currently experiencing a severe cold spell, breaking a nine-year record for the lowest temperatures. With the minimum temperature in Nawanshahr district dropping to -0.4 degrees Celsius, the state has surpassed the previous record set at -0.2 degrees Celsius on January 14. Despite these extreme conditions, the Meteorological Department indicates no immediate relief, dashing hopes for an early end to the chilly weather.
