Punjab News: Punjab Member of Parliament (MP) Vikramjit Singh Sahney has contacted India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, to expedite the issuance of visas to Canadians, particularly those of Indian origin. He emphasized the need to clear the backlog caused by visa suspension and reduce the processing time to 7-10 days from submission at BLS Visa Application Centers.

Sahney pointed out that 70% of visas for Indo-Canadians are processed through BLS in nine cities, while the remaining 30% involve walk-in applications at the Indian High Commission and consulates. He encouraged individuals with emergency cases like death, serious illness, or weddings to apply through the Suvidha Portal to the nearest Indian consulate.
- Sahney also underscored the importance of addressing fringe elements that could disrupt the harmonious atmosphere
Sahney also underscored the importance of addressing fringe elements that could disrupt the harmonious atmosphere, as Indo-Canadians may face challenges from such groups. He expressed the need for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to consider granting E-visas in exigent situations.
This action comes after India resumed visa services in various categories, including Entry, Business, Medical, and Conference, following a diplomatic row over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. Canada welcomed India’s decision to restore these services, indicating that it was a positive development after a period of uncertainty for many Canadians.
