Punjab News:: In a powerful show of solidarity, celebrities from Punjab’s entertainment and sports industries have come together to launch a massive public movement against drug abuse in the state. This collective effort, spearheaded by the Punjab Police and supported by well-known figures from Pollywood and sports, aims to rid Punjab of the scourge of drugs and restore the health and vitality of its youth.

Prominent personalities, including legendary singer Gurdas Maan, actress Neeru Bajwa, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and cricketer Arshdeep Singh, have taken to social media to urge the people of Punjab to join the fight against drugs. Their messages, shared on the social media handles of the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) as well as their own platforms, have resonated widely, calling for a unified effort to create a #NashaMuktPunjab.

Rising to the Challenge: A Clarion Call

For the first time in nearly 15 years of Punjab’s struggle with drug abuse, such a large group of celebrities has come forward to actively participate in a public movement of this scale. Their appeals emphasize the urgent need for collective action to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and to encourage communities to stand together in this fight.

Gurdas Maan, known for his soulful music, was among the first to lend his voice to the cause, urging people to shun drugs and protect the future of Punjab’s youth. Neeru Bajwa, a popular actress, and Harmanpreet Kaur, who also serves as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Punjab, have echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the role of each individual in making the state drug-free. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh joined the chorus, stating, “We all have to come together to end this menace.”

Police Action and Government Initiatives

The anti-drug campaign has gained momentum alongside the Punjab government’s stringent actions against drug trafficking and abuse. Since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in March 2022, the Punjab Police have registered 28,400 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In this period, 38,801 individuals have been arrested, and a significant amount of drugs, including 2,482 kilograms of heroin, have been seized.

This large-scale crackdown is part of the state’s broader efforts to curb drug abuse, which has plagued Punjab for over a decade. The timing of the renewed push against drugs coincides with the recent Jalandhar bypoll and investigative reports highlighting the ongoing crisis.

A Call to Action

The celebrities’ involvement has energized the campaign, turning it into a powerful public movement. Their participation sends a strong message that the fight against drugs requires the involvement of every citizen, from grassroots communities to high-profile public figures.

Punjab’s fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement issue but a social movement that seeks to reclaim the state’s future. The collective voices of these influential figures aim to inspire every resident to contribute to the cause, making Punjab a safer and healthier place for generations to come.

The Punjab Police, along with these stars, continue to urge the public to join this movement. Every contribution counts in making Punjab a drug-free state.
