Punjab News: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Initiates Measures to Curb Unauthorized Colonies

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab News: In a proactive move, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed concerned officials to draft a bill aimed at curbing the proliferation of unauthorized colonies in the state. This decision follows the CM’s recent announcement to eliminate the requirement for a no objection certificate (NOC) for property registration, a move aimed at facilitating the public. However, the CM emphasized the need to crack down on illegal colonizers.

Background and Rationale

Upon assuming office, the AAP government in Punjab raised concerns about the unchecked growth of unauthorized colonies during previous administrations. Allegedly, 14,000 unapproved colonies emerged due to a lack of attention to planned development. Between 2000 and 2022, the Department of Housing issued licenses for 615 colonies, including 58 mega projects, comprising housing and industrial initiatives.

Government’s Stance

Chief Minister Mann expressed strong disapproval of illegal colonizers who deceive people by selling plots in unapproved colonies. He emphasized that such activities will not be tolerated, and stringent measures will be taken against colonizers who engage in selling plots without proper approval. The state government is determined to prevent the proliferation of illegal colonies, and any violations will be met with strict actions.

Government’s Commitment to Planning and Development

The AAP-led government is committed to rectifying the situation by implementing measures to control unauthorized colonies. The decision to waive the NOC requirement for property registration aims to streamline processes for the public, while simultaneously ensuring that illegal practices by colonizers are curbed. The forthcoming bill is expected to play a crucial role in regulating and managing the growth of colonies in the state.
