Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare of farmers by addressing their concerns during a protest in Chandigarh. CM Mann, who has consistently advocated for the rights of farmers, held a meeting with protesting farmers, during which he provided significant assurances to resolve their issues.
As a result of these assurances, the farmers have called off their protest today, bringing relief to both the farming community and the general public. This move is expected to pave the way for further development in the state.
Farmers End Protests After Talks
Following an extensive meeting with CM Mann, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ugrahan, which had been leading the protests, announced their decision to end the demonstration in Chandigarh. BKU President Joginder Singh Ugrahan stated that the state government has been urged to make the new agricultural policy public, for which they have been assured a response by September 30. The farmers expressed satisfaction with the chief minister’s commitment to protecting their interests, stating that the new policy will be a step in the right direction.
Punjab Government Concedes to Major Farmer Demands
The Mann government has agreed to fulfill several of the farmers’ key demands. To provide debt relief, the Punjab government will implement a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. Additionally, cases filed against protesting farmers will be withdrawn. By September 30, the state government will also share a draft of the new agricultural policy with farmers to ensure transparency. Furthermore, to address environmental concerns, the government has pledged to install a treatment plant to prevent pollution in Budha Nullah, a local water body.
This development marks a significant achievement for the farmers and is expected to drive the progress of Punjab’s agriculture sector and overall state growth.
