Punjab News: In a continued effort to address the stubble burning crisis, the Punjab agriculture department has announced the provision of 1,100 tractors to farmers for the upcoming season. These tractors are intended to support the use of heavy-duty crop residue management equipment like the Super Seeder and Happy Seeder, which are crucial in managing stubble after paddy harvesting without resorting to burning.
Punjab Government Provides 1,100 Tractors to Boost Stubble Management Efforts
While the state government has been supplying farmers with stubble management machines, many face challenges due to the high rental costs of tractors required to operate these machines.
This new initiative aims to ensure that farmers have access to tractors powerful enough to use the necessary machinery
Despite Punjab having an estimated 5 lakh tractors, nearly 60% of them are not suitable for running advanced machinery such as the Happy Seeder. Most tractors in the state fall within the 35 to 40 horsepower (hp) range, whereas stubble management equipment demands tractors with at least 50 to 60 hp.
This new initiative aims to ensure that farmers have access to tractors powerful enough to use the necessary machinery, helping them comply with environmental regulations and reducing air pollution caused by stubble burning.
