Punjab News: The Punjab government has strongly objected to the proposed amendments in the recruitment rules (RR) suggested by the Chandigarh administration, expressing concerns that these changes could potentially dilute Punjab’s share and role in the Union Territory’s administration.
Punjab Government Raises Concerns Over Proposed Amendments in Chandigarh Recruitment Rules
Punjab has demanded that representatives from the state government be included in the process of formulating the new recruitment rules. Additionally, the state has emphasized the importance of maintaining the current deputation ratio of 60:40 for Punjab and Haryana officers in the Union Territory. Punjab has insisted that these positions should not be filled with officials from the Central government, other states, or other Union Territories.
In a letter to the UT home secretary, the Punjab personnel department specifically highlighted the case of the draft RR for the town planning and architecture wings of the Chandigarh administration. The letter raised objections over the formulation process of these rules, stating, “The draft rules were finalized on March 4, 2024, and uploaded for public objections and suggestions. However, these draft rules were not sent to the Government of Punjab for its comments. Even the Committee constituted for proposing amendments in rules/preparing draft rules does not include a representative from the state of Punjab.”
The Punjab government’s firm stance underscores its commitment to ensuring that its interests and proportional representation are preserved in the administrative framework of the Union Territory.
