Punjab News: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has made significant strides in its commitment to child safety and welfare. Under the leadership of Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, the state has successfully rehabilitated 77 child beggars as part of the ongoing Child Begging Free Campaign.

Key Achievements

Dr. Baljit Kaur highlighted that the campaign, which runs every second week of the month, has rescued 77 children from various districts across Punjab. Of these, 20 children, who lacked shelter, have been placed in state-run Bal Ghars, where they will receive education, food, and healthcare. The remaining children have been reunited with their families through the Child Welfare Committee.

Additionally, eight children have benefited from the sponsorship scheme, 13 are currently being processed for school admission, and one child has been enrolled in an Anganwadi.

Commitment to Child Welfare

The Minister emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The Punjab Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of children in the state. Under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015, we have registered seven government children’s homes and 39 non-government homes to accommodate orphans, destitute, and surrendered children.”

An Appeal to the Public

Dr. Baljit Kaur also appealed to the public to report any concerns regarding child safety to their District Child Protection Unit or the Child Welfare Committee. This collaborative effort between the government and the public is crucial in creating a safe and nurturing environment for all children in Punjab.
