Punjab Government to Issue New Detention Orders Under NSA Against Amritpal Singh
The announcement was made during a hearing before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in response to a petition filed by the detainees seeking their release. The petition highlighted the completion of their one-year detention period under the NSA, prompting the state government’s response.
Amritpal Singh was arrested on April 23, 2023
Amritpal Singh was arrested on April 23, 2023, and subsequently detained under the NSA, a law that restricts the detention period to a maximum of one year. However, it allows for the issuance of fresh detention orders post the completion of this period.
Punjab’s Advocate General, Gurminder Singh, confirmed the government’s intention to issue a new detention order against Singh and his associates. He stated that the fresh order is in the process of being finalized and will be presented to the High Court at the next hearing. As of now, the specifics of the new orders have not been disclosed by the state government. This step indicates the government’s continued vigilance in dealing with activities deemed a threat to national security.
