Punjab News: In a bid to curb drunken driving and enhance road safety, Punjab Police will soon launch a special drive targeting intoxicated drivers. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Traffic and Road Safety, Amardeep Singh Rai, announced the initiative on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of this campaign in reducing road accidents.
Special Check Posts and New Equipment
The drive will involve setting up special check posts on both state and national highways to monitor and apprehend drunken drivers. To facilitate this, Punjab Police has ordered 800 alcometers, devices specifically designed to measure blood alcohol content. Rai highlighted that drunken driving is a major contributing factor to road accidents in the region.
Technological Enhancements
In addition to tackling drunken driving, Punjab Police is also focusing on other aspects of road safety. Following the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the department is procuring 27 hi-tech interceptor vehicles. These vehicles will be instrumental in addressing issues of speeding and reckless driving.
Furthermore, 900 e-challan machines have been distributed to various districts as part of a newly launched system aimed at streamlining traffic law enforcement and ensuring greater accountability on the roads.
Commitment to Road Safety
ADGP Rai reiterated the Punjab Police’s commitment to making the state’s roads safer for all users. By combining stringent checks on drunken driving with advanced technological tools, the police force aims to significantly reduce road accidents and enhance overall traffic safety in Punjab.
The upcoming drive and the introduction of new equipment underscore the proactive steps being taken by Punjab Police to address key road safety issues and protect the lives of the state’s residents.
