Punjab News : Punjab Finance, Excise, and Taxation Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, announced that the government has received Rs 3,670.64 crore as pending compensation under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from the Government of India for the period between July 2017 and March 2022. While the era of GST compensation ended on June 30, 2022, Punjab continued to raise the issue of pending GST compensation with the Centre.

As a result of these efforts, the Centre issued sanction orders for the aforementioned amount. Cheema expressed his gratitude to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), and the Principal Accountant General of Punjab for facilitating the release of the pending compensation.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the excise and taxation department, led by Financial Commissioner (Taxation) Vikas Pratap and Taxation Commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind, as well as Additional Commissioner (Audit) Ravneet Singh Khurana and DCFA Harpreet Kaur. Cheema commended the finance department officers, including Principal Secretary (Finance) A K Sinha, Secretary (Expenditure) Mohammad Tayyab, and Special Secretary (Finance) Yashanjit Singh.
