Punjab News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police have sanctioned ₹20 crore for the installation of CCTV cameras in border areas to curb drug trafficking, particularly through the use of drones. This initiative aims to strengthen the second line of defense against the drug menace plaguing the state.
DGP Gaurav Yadav made the announcement after interacting with 28 probationary IPS officers from the 2023 batch. The officers, including two from Bhutan, were on a study-cum-cultural tour of Punjab as part of their Bharat Darshan program and training. During their visit, they engaged in a long session with the top brass of the Punjab Police, discussing the challenges and preparedness of the state police force.
Overview of Punjab Police and Coordination with BSF
The officers were given a comprehensive overview of the Punjab Police and briefed on their coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) to safeguard the international border. This collaboration is crucial in the fight against drug trafficking and other security challenges.
“Our discussion on state security and policing challenges was insightful and thought-provoking. I’m confident that these talented officers will make a significant impact in their future roles,” said DGP Yadav.

This move aligns with the Punjab government’s commitment to eradicating drug menace from the state. With the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic border areas, the state police aim to monitor and prevent illegal drug trafficking activities more effectively.
