Punjab News : Punjab to Build Three New Solar Power Plants in Bathinda District

Punjab News— In a significant move to decarbonize the agriculture sector, the Punjab government has announced the construction of three new solar power plants in Bathinda district. Each plant will have a capacity of 4 MW, according to the Minister for New and Renewable Energy Sources, Aman Arora.

Expanding Solar Energy Initiatives

This initiative follows the recent commissioning of a 4 MW solar energy plant at Tarkhanwala village in Bathinda by the Punjab Energy Development Agency. This plant was established to meet the rising electricity demand from farmers in the region. It exports 6.65 million units of its annual output to the nearest grid sub-station of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at Sekhu village.

Future Plans and Investment

The state government plans to commission three additional solar power projects, which together will have a total generation capacity of 12 MW. These projects, estimated to cost Rs 50 crore, are expected to be completed by June 2025.

Minister’s Statement

Minister Aman Arora emphasized the importance of these projects in reducing the carbon footprint of the agricultural sector. “These solar power plants will play a crucial role in meeting the energy needs of our farmers while promoting sustainable and renewable energy sources,” he said.

A Step Towards Sustainable Agriculture

The development of these solar power plants aligns with Punjab’s broader strategy to incorporate renewable energy into its agricultural framework, thereby supporting both environmental sustainability and energy security for the state’s farmers.

Conclusion

With these new projects, Punjab continues to advance its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development, setting a strong example for other states to follow in the transition towards cleaner energy sources.
