Punjab News: Punjab’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, Harbhajan Singh, revealed on Tuesday that the state government had successfully completed the construction of 2,121 km of roads during the 2023-24 financial year. The achievement was accompanied by a significant cost-saving of 21%, attributed to the transparent bidding process implemented for these construction projects.
PWD Minister Applauds Transparent Bidding Process
In a review meeting conducted to assess the progress of road construction works, Minister Harbhajan Singh praised the officials for their performance. The construction works, which were paused during the winter and fog season, are set to resume from February 15.
Highlights Road Construction Achievements
During the meeting, the minister scrutinized the department’s strategy to finalize the remaining 1,954 km of road works. He expressed confidence that all outstanding projects would be completed as per the targeted deadline of March 31.
PWD Secretary Priyank Bharti provided an overview, indicating that 2,121 km of roads had been constructed at a cost of Rs 1,089 crore. The remaining 1,954 km of roads are expected to incur an expenditure of Rs 1,066 crore in the current financial year.
