Punjab News: The government has provided an additional window of three months, from January to March 2024, for people to pay all outstanding property and house tax arrears (of up to March 2023), two weeks after it announced a one-time settlement scheme (OTS) for property tax defaulters.
A 50% levy of the otherwise applicable interest and penalty on the outstanding principle amount may be used to pay the arrears.
The scheme had been announced by the Department of Local Government on September 4. It had stated that defaulters would be charged the entire 20% penalty and 18% interest on the outstanding principle amount after the specified deadline.
However, the government has extended the benefit for an additional three months in the updated notification that was released on Monday.
