In a recent core committee meeting, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) decided to launch a “Punjab Bachao Yatra” starting from February 1. The yatra aims to hold the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government accountable for what the SAD perceives as failures across various fronts in Punjab. SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal will lead the yatra, covering two assembly constituencies per day in an open jeep with Akali cadres. The decision was made due to time constraints, with the party intending to expose the alleged betrayals of the AAP government, including issues affecting farmers, weaker sections, trade and industry, youth, and government employees. The yatra will cover all 117 assembly constituencies.
Additional SGPC-Organized Nagar Kirtan to Mark Guru Gobind Singh’s Parkash Purb
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), controlled by the Akali Dal, will organize an ‘Aape Gur Chela Nagar Kirtan’ from Anandpur Sahib to Talwandi Sabo from January 10 to 16. This event aims to mark the Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of Guru Gobind Singh. Alongside these plans, the party discussed the alleged disappearance and killing of the acting Akal Takht Jathedar Gurdev Singh Kaunke in the early 1990s. Party leaders believe that raising this issue is an attempt to undermine the Akali Dal’s recent positive momentum after Sukhbir Badal’s apology for sacrilege incidents during the party’s government in 2015, made on the 103rd Foundation Day in Amritsar.
