Punjab News: Southwest Monsoon Brings Excess Rainfall to Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh

Punjab News: The southwest monsoon has turned active in the northwest region, resulting in substantial excess rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours.

From 8:30 am on July 3 to 8:30 am on July 4, Punjab recorded a 322% increase in rainfall, receiving 14.8mm compared to the normal 3.5mm. Haryana also saw a significant increase, with 13.4mm of rain against the usual 3.2mm, marking a 320% rise. Himachal Pradesh experienced 157% excess rainfall, recording 14.1mm against the normal 5.5mm.

This recent surge in rainfall has helped the region, which had been experiencing large deficient rainfall, to improve its overall status. From June 1 to July 4, Punjab’s rainfall deficiency has reduced to 26%, with the state receiving 52mm of rain against the normal 70.2mm. This substantial increase in rainfall over the last few days has moved the region from a large deficiency to a more moderate deficient category, indicating a positive trend in monsoon activity.

Impact on Agriculture and Water Resources

The excess rainfall is expected to have a beneficial impact on agriculture, particularly in Punjab and Haryana, where farmers rely heavily on monsoon rains for their crops. The additional rainfall will help replenish groundwater levels and ensure sufficient water supply for irrigation, potentially leading to a good harvest season.

Government and Relief Measures

Authorities in the affected states are closely monitoring the situation and have issued advisories to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. The government has also ramped up relief measures to address any potential flooding or waterlogging issues that may arise due to the heavy rains.
