This achievement is part of the state government’s initiative to ensure canal water reaches every corner of Punjab, benefiting farmers and improving agricultural conditions.

Punjab News: In a historic move, several villages in Punjab have received canal water after 40 years, owing to the persistent efforts of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This achievement is part of the state government’s initiative to ensure canal water reaches every corner of Punjab, benefiting farmers and improving agricultural conditions.

Examples of Water Reach to Sub-Minor and Tail Points

Villages such as Bharpoor Garh Malewal in Fatehgarh Sahib district and Gujjarhe in Patiala district have received canal water at their tail points for the first time in 40 years. Similar developments have been reported in other villages, marking a significant milestone in the state’s irrigation history.

Chief Minister’s Vision for Canal Water Network

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that strengthening the canal water network will not only provide better irrigation facilities to farmers but also conserve groundwater. The state government is committed to continuing these efforts to ensure sustainable water management and agricultural development.

Distribution of Canal Water Across Punjab

The initiative has seen canal water reaching villages like Jani Sar in Muktsar after 35 years, and Nihal Singh Wala in Moga after 25 years. Various other villages such as Shamshabad in Phillaur and Ucha Pind in Fagwara have also benefited from this project.

Systematic Approach to Ensure Water Reach

To ensure efficient distribution, the canal department has created detailed maps of water channels with the help of patwaris (village officials). This includes the maintenance and cleaning of canals and watercourses to prevent any obstructions in water flow.

Expansion of Irrigation Facilities

Under the Chief Minister’s directives, over 50,000 new watercourses have been constructed. Additionally, the Mann government is expanding the irrigation area to maximize the use of canal water for agriculture.

Commitment to Farmers and Sustainable Development

The Punjab government’s efforts reflect a deep commitment to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. With continued focus on water management and infrastructure development, the state aims to enhance the overall agricultural productivity and well-being of its farming communities.

This remarkable achievement underscores the importance of good governance and strategic planning in addressing long-standing issues and bringing about positive change in the lives of people.
