The Punjab Police last week arrested 366 drug peddlers after registering 258 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
A senior police officer gave this information on Monday.
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said the police seized 8.44 kg of heroin, 7.75 kg of opium, 17.64 kg of ganja, 19 quintals of poppy seeds, 59,000 tablets, capsules, needles and Rs 1.22 crore in cash from them.
He told that 15 fugitives and declared criminals were arrested last week, they were caught under the special operation started from July 5.
Drug Quantity Is Less
According to Punjab Police, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has directed that even though the quantity of drug seized may be very less, but every case should be thoroughly investigated.

The Director General of Police also ordered all the CPs and SSPs to identify the places where drug trade is rampant and the people engaged in this trade should also be identified.
He directed the district police chiefs to confiscate the properties of the arrested drug peddlers to recover their ill-gotten gains.
