No official confirmation yet
Sidhu’s close associates claim that momentum is being built up in anticipation of his release from the Patiala Central Jail, where the minister is serving a one-year term in connection with the 1988 case of road rage, even though there is no official confirmation of any communication from the party high command to the cricketer-turned-politician about his new role in the party.

Siddhu’s return, a new challenge to Bhagwant Mann and the BJP?
Party insiders believe that Sidhu’s return to politics in Punjab on a party platform will present a new challenge to the Bhagwant Mann-led administration and the BJP. Party officials are eagerly awaiting his course of action after being released from prison. A senior leader warned that his actions within the party would be closely scrutinised.
In May of this year, the party high command sent the case of Sidhu’s suspected anti-party activities to the disciplinary committee. Days afterwards, the Supreme Court issued its ruling on Sidhu’s prison sentence.
Although the disciplinary committee’s members would change with the change of guard at the top level, the case against Sidhu is still ongoing, it has been learned.
The PPCC has taken a firm stance against indiscipline since Raja Warring assumed leadership of the organisation, and in recent months, a few leaders have been removed as a result. “I welcome everyone who works to strengthen the party, be it Sidhu or anyone else. However, indiscipline will not be tolerated at any cost.”
