Releasing the details of the new sports policy passed by the Punjab cabinet headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet announced new gifts for the sportspersons during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan on Monday.
Announcing cash prizes in the state government’s new sports policy, the way has been cleared for awards for coaches and for players and jobs for players.
According to media reports, sports nurseries will be set up in every village of the state and centers equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will be set up at the state level.
It has been told by the Sports Minister that the prize money of Olympic Games gold medalists, silver medalists and bronze medalists will be increased from the existing 2 crore 25 lakh, 1.5 crore and 1 crore to 3 crore, 2 crore and 1 crore. The decision was made.
It has been told by the Sports Minister that earlier about 25 sports and medal winners used to get cash prizes whereas now their number has been increased to more than 80. He said that arrangements have been made for 500 posts in the special cadre prepared for medal winning sportspersons. These 500 posts include 40 deputy directors, 92 senior coaches, 138 coaches and 230 junior coaches.
It has been informed by the Sports Minister that for the first time it has been decided to start award for coaches and promoters like players. He has told that the coaches of the state will now get the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior Coach Award. Which will include prize money of Rs 5 lakh, blazer and trophy.
