Punjab Weather Update: Severe Heatwave and Cyclone Remal Pose Challenges Across India

Punjab Weather Update: According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Northwest India is set to endure heat waves to severe heat waves over the next four to five days. Regions in the Western Himalayan area, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are also expected to experience intense heat.

IMD’s Heatwave Warning

The IMD has issued red alerts for West Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Haryana, urging vulnerable populations to take utmost precautions. From May 27 to May 28, most of Rajasthan, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and some areas of West Uttar Pradesh are predicted to suffer from heat waves to severe heat waves, with conditions expected to gradually improve afterward.

Isolated heatwave conditions are also anticipated in Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh from May 27 to May 30; Chhattisgarh from May 28 to May 30; West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha from May 27 to May 29; and Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat on May 27.

Cyclone Remal Updates

Meanwhile, the severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Remal’ has made landfall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh, bringing heavy rainfall to several surrounding regions. Cyclone Remal hit with wind speeds of 135 kilometers per hour, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and property.

The cyclone has now weakened into a cyclonic storm and is expected to diminish further, according to the IMD. The aftermath of the storm left many without power, and tragically, one man was killed in Kolkata when concrete debris fell on him during the peak of the storm.

Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and provide relief to affected areas. The public is advised to stay informed through official channels and follow safety guidelines during both the heatwave and post-cyclone recovery efforts.
