In a recent cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on December 4, 2023, several significant decisions were made, including the approval of the ‘Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana.’ The scheme aims to connect 3177 villages with populations below 250 with main roads, enhancing accessibility and connectivity in rural areas.
Key Decisions:
- Hiring of Assistant Teachers and Lecturers: The Secondary Education Department has been granted permission to hire assistant teachers and lecturers on a per-inspection basis. This move is expected to address the staffing needs in the education sector, with an estimated 1500 to 2000 teachers to be recruited.
- Benefits for ‘Kanyadhan Yojana’ Applicants: The cabinet decided to extend benefits to 35088 daughters who were previously excluded from the ‘Kanyadhan Yojana’ despite applying between 2009 and 2016-17. Each eligible beneficiary will receive Rs 15,000, totaling an expenditure of Rs 52 crore 63 lakh.
- Establishment of Excellent Schools: The state plans to establish 559 excellent schools to provide modern and quality education to students. Schools within a 15 km radius with a strong academic record will be selected for this initiative, with an allocated budget of Rs 240 crore.
- Incentive Policy for Helipad Construction: The cabinet approved an incentive policy for constructing helipads on private land where government land is unavailable. Under this policy, a 50 percent grant will be provided for helipad construction, and land can be leased for this purpose.
- Introduction of Virtual Registry: The cabinet approved the Virtual Registry policy, allowing online registration from the comfort of one’s home. This initiative aims to streamline and simplify the registration process, eliminating the need for physical visits to the office.
- Creation of Medical College Posts: The cabinet approved the structure for 950-950 posts to operate 100-100 MBBS trainee capacities in the medical colleges under construction in Pithoragarh and Haridwar.
- User Charge for Driving License: The transport department is set to collect a user charge of Rs 100 from applicants for making a driving license in the state. This decision aims to generate revenue for the department, making the process somewhat more expensive for applicants.
These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to education, women’s welfare, healthcare, infrastructure, and administrative efficiency in Uttarakhand.
