There was chaos at a mobile shop in Amritsar, Punjab, when a police officer inadvertently opened fire with his government pistol. This bullet hit a young man working in the shop. The injured youth has been taken to the hospital, where his condition remains critical. The police officer has been suspended after the incident.
According to ANI, it can be seen in the CCTV footage installed inside the shop that a policeman in Amritsar is seen taking out a pistol from his pocket and keeping it on the counter. After placing it on the counter, he is repeatedly touching his government pistol and showing it to someone. It can be seen in the video that during this time he rotates the pistol counter several times. Then suddenly it misfires and the bullet hits a young man working there.
Regarding the incident, ACP Varinder Singh of North Region of Amritsar said that necessary action has been taken on the statements of the witnesses and family members present on the spot. The police officer has been suspended. The ACP also told that the condition of the young man who was shot is critical.
Earlier this month, a similar incident took place in Jammu and Kashmir, where a civilian was killed after a policeman’s rifle misfired. Kashmir Zone Police had tweeted about the incident and said that ‘On October 5, while on duty in Pulwama, a policeman’s rifle accidentally opened fire, injuring one person. The injured person was immediately taken to the hospital by the police. Later, the police registered a case and the policeman was arrested.
