Who is Amritpal Singh, whose close friend’s arrest created ruckus in Amritsar

There was a huge ruckus in Amritsar, Punjab on Thursday. Supporters of Amritpal Singh, head of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization, attacked the Ajnala police station. Thousands of people gheraoed the police station in protest against the arrest of Lovepreet Toofan, close to Amritpal. Thousands of angry people marched on the police station in Amritsar with guns, swords and sticks.

To stop the crowd, the police had put up a barricade, but the protesters broke it and entered inside. Many policemen are said to be seriously injured in this incident. Amritpal also reached the Ajnala police station after getting information about the uproar. Here he had a meeting with SSP Satinder Singh. After which he has given an ultimatum to the police to leave Lovepreet Toofan. Lovepreet Toofan has been arrested for kidnapping a person and killing him badly.

While giving an ultimatum to the police, Amritpal Singh said, “The FIR was lodged only with a political motive. If they don’t cancel the case in an hour, the administration will be responsible for whatever happens next. They think we can’t do anything, so this show of strength was necessary. News agency ANI reported that heavy police force has been deployed in the area and efforts are on to control the protesters.

Who is Amritpal Singh?

Amritpal Singh is a resident of Jallupur Kheda village in Amritsar district. He had gone to Dubai for work in 2012 and had recently returned to India from there. Now he is the head of Khalistani supporter Deep Sidhu’s organization ‘Waris Punjab De’. Deep Sidhu had recently died in a road accident. He was also accused in the violence on the Red Fort during the farmer’s movement. According to the report of India Today, Jarnail Singh, who runs the Khalistan Movement, is a supporter of Bhindranwale. Amritpal Singh, a self-proclaimed Khalistani supporter, demands a separate Sikh state and also gives provocative statements about it.

According to Wikipedia, he runs Amrit Sanchar Abhiyan for the spread of Sikhism. He organized his first Amrit campaign in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. In which about 647 people took nectar and became a part of Khalsa Sikhs. After this he started the homecoming campaign. In Anandpur Sahib, he made 927 Sikhs, Hindus and Christians take nectar. It is said that the Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee under the Haryana Government supported him in this work.

In Amritsar, he conducted another big Amrit campaign, in which 1,027 Sikhs and Hindus from all over India drank Amrit and became Khalsa Sikhs. In response to the growing issue of drug addiction among the youth in Punjab, an anti-drug campaign was launched. Because of that, about 754 youths have been helped to recover from drug addiction. He says that through nectar communication, drug addiction will come in the youth and the whole state will be free from drugs.
