Wayanad Landslide: The families of those impacted by the terrible landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district have received deep sympathies from Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Raebareli MP. Rahul Gandhi, who served as Wayanad’s representative from 2019 to 2024, recently vacated the seat for Raebareli.

Rahul Gandhi Deeply Saddened by the Tragedy

Taking to social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident. “I am deeply anguished by the massive landslides near Meppadi in Wayanad. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I hope those still trapped are brought to safety soon,” he wrote.

Calls for Coordinated Efforts

Rahul Gandhi has been in touch with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Wayanad District Collector, urging them to ensure all agencies are working together efficiently. He requested the establishment of a control room and emphasized the need for timely information on assistance required for relief efforts. “I will speak to Union Ministers and request them to provide all assistance possible to Wayanad,” he added.

He also called upon all United Democratic Front (UDF) workers to support the administration in the ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Casualties and Rescue Operations

The landslides, which struck the hilly region of Wayanad on Tuesday, have resulted in the confirmed deaths of eight people, including two children. In Chooralmala town, four people, including a child, lost their lives, while a one-year-old child from a Nepali family perished in Thondernad village.
