Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: In a significant announcement for farmers, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the Mahavikas Aghadi’s (MVA) plans to address the long-standing demands of Maharashtra’s agricultural community. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi shared the coalition’s steps aimed at ensuring justice and fair compensation for farmers.
Key measures include an increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹7,000 per quintal for soybeans, along with a bonus. Additionally, a committee will be set up to determine fair pricing for onions, and cotton farmers will also receive a revised MSP. These initiatives aim to provide relief to farmers struggling with low returns on their hard work.
Criticism of BJP’s Unfulfilled Promises
Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for failing to deliver on its election promises of setting ₹6,000 MSP for soybeans. He pointed out that despite assurances over the last three elections, farmers are still forced to sell their soybean produce at ₹3,000-₹4,000 per quintal, far below the promised rate.
Empowering Farmers Through Fair Practices
Rahul Gandhi asserted that the MVA government is committed to securing the rights of farmers, ensuring they receive the fruits of their labor and the justice they deserve. The initiatives are being lauded as a step toward addressing the financial struggles of the agricultural community in Maharashtra.
