Rajasthan News: On Tuesday, residents of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan organised a protest and obstructed local roads in response to an incident where a tiger allegedly fatally attacked a shepherd while he was grazing his cattle in the forest.
What had happened?
This incident took place in Khawa village, situated within the jurisdiction of the Kundera police station. It occurred at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday when a 45-year-old man named Babu Lal Gurjar was taking his goats for grazing in the Ranthambore forest area.
Concerned about his prolonged absence, Babu Lal Gurjar’s family initiated a search for him as he failed to return home by late evening. Subsequently, with help from fellow villagers, they discovered his lifeless body in the depths of the forest on Tuesday morning.
The village is in close proximity to the Ranthambore National Tiger Reserve. In response to this tragic incident, villagers, along with BJP leader Kirori Lal Meena, staged a protest while carrying the shepherd’s body and demanded compensation for his family. Mahendra Chaudhary, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kundera police, verified that the deceased individual hailed from Khawa village, which is adjacent to the Ranthambore National Park.

The forest department has committed to providing ₹5 lakh in compensation, while the district collector has also pledged ₹5 lakh for the victim’s family. Additionally, Kirori Lal Meena has promised ₹5 lakh in support of the family during this difficult time. Furthermore, the family will receive a contract-based job, along with the allocation of one hectare of agricultural land within the village, which includes the provision of a dairy booth to support their livelihood.
